Hurst Home Insurance

Coverage

Practical, affordable protection for the way Kentuckians actually live.

What we cover

Hurst Home offers coverage on owner-occupied homes, farm buildings, rental homes, modular dwellings and farming equipment. Our policies are written on an Actual Cash Value basis — we do not require you to insure your home for more than its value, so you won’t see the yearly premium creep that comes with automatic coverage increases at some other companies.

With Hurst Home you pay for the coverage you want. If you have a garage or building you don’t want to insure, there is no cost. If you do want to insure barns, garages or outbuildings, you can insure them for their Actual Cash Value.

Built for the farm

  • Blanket farming implements. Not every piece of equipment has to be scheduled. Buy a new implement and it’s automatically covered against the policy’s insured perils, up to your agreed blanket limit.
  • Livestock. Insure your cattle against theft, fire & lightning, attack by wild animals and other specified perils.
  • Tobacco. We insure your tobacco after it has been housed in the barn, until it has been sold.
  • Liability. Purchase home and/or farm liability in conjunction with your property coverage.

Deductibles that work for you

We offer property coverage deductibles up to $1,000 — and we also offer policies with a zero deductible. That can be especially valuable in counties where we can send our own repair people to fix small claims at no cost or aggravation to you.

We are a small insurance company, and we are here to answer our customers’ calls — whether it’s about a claim, increasing coverage, or just an explanation of what your policy does.

Loss-prevention ideas from our adjusters

At home

  • Keep adequate, functioning smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors in all homes.
  • Maintain steps, railings and decks for the safety of family, guests and tenants.
  • Grade your yard properly — no holes or hidden defects that could injure a visitor.
  • Don’t own (or let tenants harbor) aggressive pets; keep all animals cared for and restrained.
  • Keep gutters in working order, draining water well away from the foundation.
  • Have wood stoves properly installed and regularly inspected.

On the farm

  • Maintain fences to keep livestock off roadways, where escapes can cause severe accidents.
  • Keep barn doors and vent doors fastened to lessen windstorm damage.
  • Make routine repairs promptly; report covered losses in a timely manner so damage doesn’t spread.
  • Inspect tobacco barns frequently — make sure rails are sturdy and nailed.
